KUALA LUMPUR: Italy's presence in each and every sector in Malaysia is growing day by day.

Italian ambassador Massimo Rustico said the embassy, Italian Trade Agency, the Italy-Malaysia Business Association, its community and companies would spare no efforts to contribute towards the expansion of bilateral ties.

"Thanks to our companies, our industrial presence in Malaysia is already very sizeable, technologically advanced and diversified in so many fields.

"Several of these are strategic to the growth of the country, are competitive and fully part of the Malaysian economic fabric," he said at the 76th Italian Day at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur.

Guest-of-honour was Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.

Also present was the ambassador's wife Monica Rustico.

Rustico said that the Italian as well as other European investments played a fundamental role in the strong and friendly relationship with Malaysia.

"Malaysia is a country what we love, appreciate and with which we want to expand our relations, including the cultural one," he said.

Rustico added that Italy was one of the largest, most competitive and globalized manufacturing industries in the world.

"Italy has the capacity to offer so much and also learn so much from Malaysia.

"We will be happy to work together with the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry to explore avenues of cooperation in different domains.

"As Italians, and Europeans at large, we are committed fully towards the environment's preservation and the energy transition with the aim of zero emissions in the future.

"We want to create a very strong partnership with Malaysia," Rustico said.

He added that Italy was willing to work together in the medical field, where the Covid-19 pandemic had shown how relevant it was to cooperate.

At the event, Rustico spoke about Italy's industrial 'jewels' which represented an impressive concentration of research and development, design, innovation and performance.

These included motorcars like the Ferrari and Maserati, and Ducati motorcycles.

"They are a wonderful part of an industry that has plenty of investments in Malaysia and more to come.

"We believe in your country and we want to invest more, as to many Italian companies have been doing for so long," said Rustico.
