KUALA LUMPUR (April 14): The implementation of the ePemula programme that regulates offline e-credit usage ensures micro stores and businesses are not left behind in the digital economic transformation phase.

ShopeePay Malaysia head, Alain Yee said there are about 1.1 million business premises including micro and small businesses already registered with DuitNow QR which facilitates cashless transactions.

"Through the ePemula initiative, the government's intention to encourage cashless transactions can be accelerated as consumers can shop in physical stores with DuitNow QR touchpoints nationwide.

"ShopeePay supports DuitNow QR and consumers that claim ePemula with ShopeePay can perform the cashless transaction in the premises of choice, besides enjoying additional rewards vouchers worth RM500,” he said on the Bernama TV programme 'Malaysia Petang Ini’.

Yee said businesses that do not have  DuitNow QR can use the Peer-to-Peer financing service with ShopeePay.

"ShopeePay also provides coin returns and various vouchers that can be used online or offline, enabling more savings for consumers in the long term," he said.

Alain said the ePemula initiative also benefits businesses such as micro and small traders, by making the daily transaction process easier.

“They (transactions) are recorded digitally and the cashless transaction facility does not need to provide change as the payment amount can be made accurately,” he said.

The government allocated RM300 million for ePemula, an initiative to encourage cashless spending among youths aged 18 to 20 years, as well as students in higher learning institutions.

Through this programme, RM150 would be credited to the e-wallet of about two million youths.

Eligible individuals would receive e-credit through the selected e-wallets namely ShopeePay, BigPay, GrabPay, and Touch ‘n Go Wallet.
