The pandemic has become an accelerator of digitization in Poland. There has been an increase in outsourcing, further digitization of public services, and more and more processes take place without the circulation of paper documents. However, the digitization rate of the economy is still low, mainly due to the poor digitization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – results from the debate, which took place during the European Economic Congress in Katowice, reported the PAP Mediaroom as cited by the Warsaw Business Journal.
The debate was attended by experts representing various companies or institutions involved in the digitization of services and industry in Poland. According to the latest research by EY Polska, 57% of Polish companies have accelerated their digital transformation in recent months.
"The pandemic has shown where we are in this digitization. The banking sector turned out to be well digitized," Joanna Erdman, vice president of the board of the Cashless Poland foundation, said. According to her, in payments, which are the main focus of the foundation, many positive things happened during the pandemic.
"The winning one is the e-commerce sector, which was booming due to lockdown and limited access to consumer goods. Non-cash payments also accelerated, as they were considered safer than cash by 80% of the consumers," she added.
