So, you’ve decided to take a leap of faith and make that bold, daring move that not many would dare to do. You’ve made the jump from being just another employee who works for a corporation to become an entrepreneur who works for yourself. Before we go any further, let’s first take a moment to congratulate yourself rising to that challenge. Congratulations! Not many would have the courage to make such a life changing decision, and you should feel proud for believing in yourself enough to want to make a difference.
That being said, now that you’ve dived headfirst into the entrepreneurship world, you’re quickly realizing the challenges being thrown at you are unlike anything you have ever faced before. Being an employee, it is easy to feel safe in the cocoon of an organization that someone else is running. Being your own boss and having your fate in your own hands, the pressure is immense and tenfold.
The entrepreneurship world is going to put you through a myriad of emotions. You’re going to experience everything from fear, excitement, stress, pressure, passion, determination and more. It’s all down to you to make your business a success, and there is one thing that is going to help you get through it all and come out successful on the other side – focused motivation.
The challenges you are going to face along the way to making your company a success can quickly drain you and make you feel burned out, and it is important for every entrepreneur to keep their motivation and their spirits high to stay on track towards achieving both their business and their personal goals.
Here’s how you can stay sharp, stay focused and remind yourself to stay motivated throughout the course of your business adventure:
Tip #1 – A Mission & Vision Statement
A mission and vision statement is not just for the company websites. You should have a personal one of your own too. Just like for a company, a personal mission and vision statement can help you stay on track as to what your broader goals are, which direction you should be heading and keep you motivated by reminding you of your ultimate goal. Write it down, read it, memorize it and let it serve as your constant reminder about why you decided to do this in the first place.
Tip #2 – Design a Morning Routine
Having a great morning routine that leaves you charged up and energize is a great way to start everyday on a positive, motivated note. Having a morning routine or habit will help you focus your mind at the start of every day. Many notably successful people like Tony Robbins have been known to incorporate a morning routine into their lifestyle to help them clear their minds, stay focused and mentally prepare for anything they need to do that day.
Tip #3 – Staying Positive
Admittedly, it can be hard to remain positive all the time, especially when you’ve experienced a setback or things are not going according to play. But as an entrepreneur, if you are going to maintain the motivation you need to keep going, it is very important that you find a way to stay positive, no matter what obstacles you may face. Because everyone is different, there is no one-size-fits-all solution in this instance, what makes one person happy might not necessarily work for someone else. What you could do instead is try to look at each setback as a learning opportunity, and train your mind to look at this from a positive point of view. See the bright side and the good of every situation, and you will find that often the situation may not be as bleak as it initially seems. Setbacks can sometimes be opportunities in disguise, just like failures can be the best kind of teacher. It all depends on how you look at it.
Tip #4 – Put Your Affirmations Where You Can See Them
You could have all the positive affirmation in the world, but if you forget about them along the way, it’s not going to do you much good. Don’t tuck your affirmations away in a notebook, put them where you can see them! Stick them on your mirror where you can look at them every morning and night, stick them on the desk beside your laptop, put them on your fridge, put them anywhere around the home and workspace where they are likely to be staring you right in the face. It’s easier to be remember when it’s all around you.
Tip #5 – Don’t Dwell on the Past
Mistakes happen, nothing can go perfectly 100% of the time. Being a successful entrepreneur means learning to accept that, and learning to let go of past mistakes that have happened. You need to start each day anew, with a fresh round of determination and tell yourself “today is a new day, and I will make it the better than the last!”. When you treat each day like a new opportunity, it reawakens your motivation and your passion to make each day even better than the last for your business.
Tip #6 – Choose Inspiring Activities
Watching a Ted Talk or two, or listening to inspirational podcasts during your free time can do wonders to reawaken that motivational fire within you. You’ll find there are plenty of opportunities for you to do this during the day, for example while you’re on your lunch break, commuting to work, while you get ready in the morning or before going to bed at night, even while you take short coffee breaks at work. And it only takes a few minutes to listen to something inspirational every day to keep you motivation doing what you love.
Tip #7 – Be Around Motivators Too
And of course, what better way to stay motivated than to surround yourself with motivational people. Make it a point to keep the ones who inspire you, who drive you, who work hard every day, have big dreams and brilliant minds in your close circle. You will learn so much from them, and being around people whom you can see pouring their passion into their work each day will drive you to be motivated to do the same.
