A memorandum of understanding between amaxMall, an e-commerce platform owned by telco tower builder Asiaspace, and the Technopreneurs Association of Malaysia (TeAM), will see training modules being offered to online businesses who sign up with the e-marketplace.

Present at the signing were TeAM president Datuk Fadzli Shah and amaxMall chief executive officer Nik Sarina Hashim.

Witnessing the event were TeAM deputy president Danni Rais and amaxMall chief operating officer Masron Mohamad.

Divided into seven modules of two-hour sessions each, participants will be given pointers on how to start an online business.

As classes advance, topics will cover more technical aspects from how to increase traffic flow to creating catchy virtual shopfronts for optimal user experience.

Classes will take place at Appshack, above the e-marketplace’s shoplot in Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad, Taman Tun Dr Ismail in Kuala Lumpur.

The place can accommodate 48 people and online business owners are encouraged to sign up beforehand.

Also included in this offer is a free one-hour professional photography shoot for vendors’ products.

This initiative is intended to encourage and support Malaysian SMEs to increase online presence by incorporating Internet use in their business models.

Long seen as a more affordable platform for business startups in comparison to the conventional brick-and-mortar existence, e-commerce has become highly popular with budding entrepreneurs.

However, lack of technical know-how among the less digitally savvy has caused many online businesses to give up halfway.

According to TeAM and amaxMall, many Malaysian entrepreneurs tend to stick to their comfort zones by confining their marketing efforts to social media.

But for the sake of sustainability and progress, they should establish proper online sites where their customers can “visit.”

Unfortunately, not many online entrepreneurs are willing to invest the time and effort to adopt online tools and technologies for this purpose. As a result, they miss the golden opportunity to go global.

The training module is aimed at helping SMEs break out of this cycle and to take their operations to a higher level.

The agreement will also see the two parties collaborating to offer facilities such as delivery and warehousing services for its vendors in the near future.

The year-old amaxMall has some 300 vendors on its site.

Their target for this year is to increase the number to 1,200.

Subscription fees for a site space with the e-marketplace is RM254.40 per year and a fee of RM2 is charged for every transaction over RM50.
