KUALA LUMPUR: The Mega Buy Malaysian Products Campaign (Mega BMPC) set for 2025 will unify industry players from various categories under one roof to promote local products among consumers, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living deputy minister Fuziah Salleh said Mega BMPC will serve as a showcase for diverse and high-quality Malaysian products with export potential, similar to the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA).

She was asked by Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid about the latest developments of Mega BMPC as an effort to empower micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), especially for businesses facing the challenge of economic recession.

She said the campaign will incorporate elements aimed at promoting and exporting Malaysian products to the global stage by joining forces with other organisations.

"The ministry will collaborate with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), the International Trade and Industry Ministry, the Foreign Ministry, and the Tourism Ministry to execute extensive domestic and international promotions."

For such a purpose, she said, Mega BMPC is planned to be held once every two years in the years that MAHA is not implemented.

"Mega BMPC is scheduled to take place in 2025, considering that MAHA will occur in 2024. This timing allows the ministry to conduct the event with meticulous planning and high impact.

"Furthermore, it provides ample time for the ministry to include Mega BMPC in the 2025 budget and strategise fundraising and sponsorship," she said.

Fuziah said this campaign will continue to assist entrepreneurs in expanding and extending the reach of their products to a broader market.

She added that 2023 and 2024 will be used to promote the concept of Mega BMPC to industry players, encouraging their participation while planning extensively and executing promotions domestically and internationally.

"The ministry will provide guidance and advisory services to SMEs emphasising quality, the use of digital technology to reduce costs, packaging, and marketing for their products, making them more competitive on both the local and international fronts.

"In 2023, the legacy of Mega BMPC will continue with strategic collaborations involving key players from various sectors, including the retail sector, media agencies, marketplaces, digital animation, fashion, crafts, woodwork, and the involvement of more SMEs.

"With these proactive measures and a commitment to strengthening the BMPC campaign, the government is firmly on track to showcase high-quality local products and bolster the domestic economy," she said.
