KUALA LUMPUR: The United Kingdom's inclusion in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is expected to further boost ties with Malaysia.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said he is looking forward to the CPTPP meeting set to be held in New Zealand next month.

"With UK's participations, I expect to see increase in trade and investment flows between the two countries," he said when met during the King Charles III Birthday celebration hosted by the British High Commission in Malaysia at the Sentul Depot today.

High Commissioner to Malaysia Charles Hay also echoed the same sentiments.

He said that bilateral trade between the two countries will rise with UK's CPTPP move.

"Bilateral trade is booming, in fact UK's export to Malaysia was up by 8.9 per cent last year.

"With the participation into CPTPP, I expect it to boom even more in the coming years.

"This year, we will hold our first Ministerial level Joint Economic Trade Committee to further boost trade and investment," he said.

Also gracing the ceremony was Melaka Governor Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.

British High Commission in Malaysia hosted its first ever grand reception to celebrate King Charles III 75th Birthday here today.

In previous years, the High Commission would celebrate the Queen's birthday but following her passing earlier this year, the King's birthday was celebrated instead.

Over a thousand guests were treated with British food, showcase of British culture and entertained by the Great British Circus.

Meanwhile, Hay also announced that he will complete his four-year posting in Malaysia.

"We have immensely enjoyed discovering the wildlife and forests of this mega-diverse country." he added.
