PETALING JAYA: The Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia (Samenta) secured RM58.6 million in potential business for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) during its trade mission to Taiwan recently.

Over 200 SME owners from business services, construction and property, transportation and logistics, professionals, and other industries joined the three-day trade mission.

Items on the agenda included a visit to the Taipei Smart City Expo, and a business matching session facilitated by Samenta and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) in Taipei.

The highlight of the event was a trade and investment seminar. It was officiated by Malaysia Friendship and Trade Centre acting president Syaja Abdullah, Samenta chairman William Ng, and Victor M H Lee, Taiwan’s economic affairs ministry’s deputy director-general of the department of investment services.

“We are delighted with the outcome of the Samenta SME trade mission to Taiwan. It has provided valuable business opportunities for our SMEs and helped promote Malaysia as a business-friendly destination.

“We look forward to organising similar trade missions in the future to further enhance business ties between Malaysia and other countries at the business-to-business (B2B) level,” Ng said in a statement.

“With our economy re-opening, we need to quickly seal our position in the global supply chain, and that means showing the capability of not just our larger players, but also the depth and strength of our SME and vendor ecosystem.

“There is no better way to do so than to showcase such capability in person”, he added.

The trade mission was supported by Matrade, Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre, Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China, Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation, and Taiwan’s ministry of economic affairs.

Samenta’s next trade mission will be to Indonesia in July.
