KUALA LUMPUR: Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is confident that the cooperation between the agency and its counterpart, Tourism Malaysia will boost the tourism industry in both countries.

Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and South Pacific Tanes Petsuwan was optimistic that the industry of both countries would have an easy way to generate good returns.

"The collaboration will allow the industry to align their objectives to develop the tourism sector once the world recovers from the epidemic.

"Both countries have many unique features that attract foreign tourists. We can promote the natural beauty and uniqueness of the arts and cultures," Petsuwan said.

He said the number of tourists arriving since Thailand's border was opened could be used by both countries to boost the industry.

"We are proud of the estimated influx of 1.1 million Malaysian tourists from January to Oct 7 this year. This statistic shows that the tourism industry is on solid footing," he said at the Amazing Thailand, A Million Thanks to the Malaysians' appreciation dinner in Kuala Lumpur, recently.

The dinner was also attended by the Charge d'Affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur Piyapin Niyomrerks who delivered a welcome speech thanking Malaysia's tourism industry partners.

This effort is in line with the recommendation made by the National Recovery Council (MPN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the council monthly briefing recently.

He recommended that the government to offer a post Covid-19 moratorium for a period of time to all 20,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) participants in the agrotourism sector.

"This should optimise cash flow and improve tourism infrastructure," he said.
