KUALA LUMPUR: Nokia Corp says the initiatives announced in Malaysia's 2023 Budget have indicated the need for a more robust digital ecosystem.

Hence, there was an opportunity for Nokia to grow its presence in the country, according to the company's managing director of Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Maldives Datuk Mohd Rauf Nasir.

"The government mentioned a few allocations for the telco industry. For example, improving connectivity with 100 per cent population coverage and to increase fibre broadband access to nine million fibre-passed premises by 2025.

"Thus, with this aim, we believe there is definitely an opportunity for us to grow our presence," Mohd Rauf told reporters at Nokia Technology Day media roundtable here today.

Nokia reaffirmed its commitment to support enterprises in Malaysia in their digital transformation journey and advancing the nation's Industry 4.0 roadmap.

Mohd Rauf said in the area of wireless project, the company had seen a lot of traction in the industry and enterprise looking for critical solutions.

This includes mobile networks, cloud and network services and network infrastructure.

"We have seen a lot of traction coming from enterprises, so this is why we are putting these areas as our focus. Leveraging from the market leadership that we have, especially in the private wireless network, we target to grow our presence in Malaysia as we see a lot of opportunities in the telco and enterprises space," he added.

He said the company had been engaging with the government and network providers to accelerate the digitalisation of the country's key industries.

Meanwhile, Mohd Rauf said private wireless had proven to be a critical enabler to accelerate Industry 4.0.

He said as Malaysia continued to implement its Industry 4.0 strategies, it was more critical than ever for enterprises to accelerate the adoption of these technologies and unlock new opportunities to boost Malaysia's economy.

"We look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with our partners here in Malaysia and deploying the best-in-class solutions needed to drive the nation's digital transformation journey as well as transforming the lives of Malaysians," he added.
