THE Selangor State Development Corp (PKNS) is targeting RM1 million worth of sales and a turnout of 10,000 visitors at the Selangor Business Expo 2022 (SelBiz 2022).

Commenting on this, PKNS CEO Datuk Mahmud Abbas (centre) said the programme is expected to be a driving force for Selangor’s economic performance this year, accelerating economic growth post-pandemic.

He added that for this first edition, PKNS targets approximately RM1 million worth of transactions during the expo.

“Over the years, it is apparent that flexibility and adaptability are the keys to successful businesses.

“Now more than ever, these unique entrepreneurial traits, coupled with quality products and services are critical in revitalising our economy as we work towards recovering from the pandemic,” he said during the soft launch of SelBiz 2022 in Shah Alam, Selangor, today.

With an uptake of 160 booths from local entrepreneurs, the expo will be held on Sept 3 and 4 this year, from 10am to 10pm, at Shah Alam Convention Centre in Shah Alam.

SelBiz 2022, in its first edition, will be officiated by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

According to Mahmud, the expo aims to provide an opportunity for start-ups and small businesses to introduce and promote their products to a wider audience.

He noted that it also hopes to help elevate existing businesses by opening doors to high-level networking and market penetration prospects with industry players from a variety of sectors.

Aiming to instil an entrepreneurial spirit among the youths, he said the expo also encourages high school students, university students and aspiring entrepreneurs to attend as visitors.

“SelBiz 2022 is expecting registration of entrepreneurs from industries ranging from retail and the services sector.

“It is inspiring to see so many local entrepreneurs from different fields take part in this initiative and I hope to see many more joining us,” he said.

SelBiz, an extension of the various programmes organised by PKNS to support and uplift entrepreneurs in the state, is expected to be held biennially.

PKNS believes that local entrepreneurs have the potential to elevate the socio-economic status of the nation.

SelBiz 2022 will also include a series of four knowledge sharing forums aimed at assisting businesses to boost brand presence, as well as a forum panel comprising a cross-section of industry experts and professionals who will provide valuable advices and insights to entrepreneurs.

The expo also serves as an opportunity for entrepreneurs to network and connect with known agencies such as Malaysia External Trade Development Corp, SME Corp, Tekun Nasional, Selangor Digital E-Supply Chain, Majlis Amanah Rakyat as well as supermarket chains such as Malakat Mall and Lotus’s.

One-to-one sessions with business coaches from Klinik Usahawan Selangor, a programme by the Selangor state government, are also available for both entrepreneurs and visitors alike.

In line with its commitment to promote the state’s socio-economic growth, PKNS said it has been, and continues to, nurture entrepreneurs through various programmes over the last 27 years.

To date, PKNS has nurtured over 41,000 business-owners through its programmes.
