PUTRAJAYA: The economic recovery of the country is ongoing and showing positive growth, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Speaking at a press conference after the 6th National Recovery Council (NRC) meeting on Tuesday (June 14), the NRC chairman said the latest economic indicators reflected positive growth with a 5% growth of Malaysia’s gross domestic product in the first quarter of 2022 being one of them.

"At the same time, the country’s retrenchment rate has also dropped to 3.9% in April 2022 which is the lowest it has been since Covid-19 struck two years ago," he said.

"These signs show that the steps taken by the government throughout the pandemic had borne fruit namely the eight assistance packages alongside economic stimulus packages which were worth RM530bil," he said.

He noted that these positive economic indicators also meant that the welfare and economic status of the people were set to improve in tandem.
