KUALA LUMPUR: Lazada Malaysia has partnered with the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development to support B40 female entrepreneurs, including single mothers through Lazempower.

Lazada said the main goal of Lazempower was to increase digital adoption among marginalised women by nurturing their interest in either starting or growing their businesses on an eCommerce platform such as Lazada.

Through a series of three Lasempower, more than 500 local entrepreneurs expected to be upskilled with the tools, resources, and knowledge to take the digital leap and succeed online.

"This will be done through three customised digital entrepreneurial workshops called LAZEMPOWER and 'Jom Niaga Online' webinar," it said.

The ministry's deputy director general, department of women's development Norshahidawati Abdullah said it recognised the important contribution and crucial role women play in the Malaysian economy.

Norshahidawati said through this strategic collaboration with Lazada Malaysia, the ministry hoped to inspire action and help them succeed as online entrepreneurs.

"We also want to empower them in their everyday lives as mothers, sisters, daughters and active members of the community," she said.

Lazada Malaysia chief executive officer Magnus Ekbom said women were playing a pivotal role in rebuilding and strengthening the local economy, whether as business owners, or as part of the industry's wider workforce.

"The goal of the initiative is to improve their livelihoods by providing them with a path to an alternative source of income, such that they may develop the necessary skills, practical tools, and motivation to succeed online," said Ekbom.

The launch of Lazempower has kicked off of its first workshop series that focuses on business management.

According to Lazada, the next workshop sessions in mid-April and May would shed light on digital communications (focusing on digital marketing, photography and videography) as well as personal development (a deep-dive into financial management, building your personal brand and identity, and personal wellbeing).

Prior to the launch of Lazempower, Lazada said over 300 participants also joined the webinar "Jom Niaga Online", co-organised with the Department of Women's Development Selangor.

Moving forward into the second quarter of 2022, Lazada said it would continue to invest in supporting local entrepreneurs.

"We will also add value to different segments of the community and build a stronger eCommerce ecosystem by working with stakeholders that contribute towards the growth of the nation's digital economy," it added.
