THE Malaysian Digital Economy Corp (MDEC) and Malaysian Technology Development Corp (MTDC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen alliances and cooperation between the two government agencies with the aim of catalysing the growth of Malaysian technology companies.

MDEC CEO Mahadhir Aziz said through the MoU, both agencies will strive to develop development programmes to promote digital technology and adaptation among startups; micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and SMEs.

He said the expertise and platform of each organisation will be utilised and be the main thrust of this cooperation to realise the objectives, and will further strengthen the business network synergistically to ensure maximum reach and impact.

“For MDEC, the programmes under the Malaysia Digital and #SayaDigital initiatives will play a role in helping more audiences drive the country’s digitisation, and ensure not only better access, efficiency and impact to our technology ecosystem but also increase Malaysia’s competitiveness in the digital economy.

“Through this initiative, we can move as one country to drive key objectives in the Malaysian Digital Economy Blueprint and the synergies formed through this MoU will create the best impact between both agencies, as well as prove a holistic national approach which in turn will pioneer more opportunities to produce more local technology companies which can compete globally,” Mahadhir said in a press conference yesterday.

Meanwhile, MTDC CEO Datuk Norhalim Yunus said this MoU will be a platform for MTDC Centre of 9 Pillars (CO9P) to work with com-panies and partners under MDEC, namely MTDC C09P community members who assist companies in the IR4.0 and digital sectors.

“The opportunity to work with companies under MDEC is part of our efforts to expand C09P to other areas in Malaysia and offers the opportunity to build relationships with its global partners through business advisory services and MDEC as our strategic partner,” he added.
