SUBANG JAYA: Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) has has collaborated with Cisco on a cloud-based cybersecurity solution. Called Cisco Umbrella, the solution is designed for its micro, small and medium enterprise (SME) customers, providing essential protection that enables businesses to connect securely on Digi's network.

The move will help SMEs secure their businesses with Domain Name System or DNS-layer security. Cisco Umbrella protects customers by blocking requests to malware, ransomware, phishing, botnets and more before a connection is even established, effectively stopping threats before they reach the network or endpoints.

As a cloud service, there is no complicated on-device installation process involved, so businesses can protect all their devices – be it laptops, desktops or smart devices – as long as they're connected to the internet on Digi's network.

Digi's chief business officer, Eugene Teh, says that as a trusted digital partner to SMEs, the company is committed to assist SMEs on various aspects of digitalisation, and that includes providing quality and secure network as well as protecting businesses as they increasingly go digital.

"Connectivity is a fundamental need for businesses these days with many SMEs digitalising and moving businesses online, but it comes with a risk of cyberattacks, especially on mobile devices which usually does not have any security protection yet they're widely used to access company data and assets. What we are offering today with Cisco addresses this critical need to protect SMEs with essential cybersecurity solutions to safeguard their business," says Teh.

Echoing him, Cisco's managing director, Cybersecurity Sales, APJC, Kerry Singleton says, "Today, secure Internet access with low touch is necessary to all businesses. It is an indispensable, vital element of an SME or micro business's operations. With Cisco Umbrella, we can help these companies connect to the Internet with confidence from any device, any location and provide the users with highly effective cybersecurity protection."

No on-device installation required means that you do not need to install any software or apps on your devices, or having to constantly update security patches to stay protected. Cisco Umbrella allows users to connect securely on Digi's network via mobile broadband from any device, anywhere.

Currently, Digi has rolled out the solution to about 30,000 pilot users, and will continue to make available the security feature for more users in phases.
