JOHOR BARU: The low-interest Koperasi Jayadiri Malaysia (Kojadi) loans have benefited some 200 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) nationwide with loan amounts totalling RM40mil.

SME Association of Johor South founding president Teh Kee Sin said that Johor had the second-highest loan approvals.

Teh, who is also a member of the Kojadi approval committee, said the 4% interest rate made the loan scheme attractive.

He added that most of those taking the loans were companies in the manufacturing and production sectors.

He urged new companies, sole proprietors and partnerships to apply.

“We anticipate that in the next two months, the rest of the first RM50mil allocated in June last year would be fully disbursed,” he said.

When Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong attended an event in Tebrau here recently, he announced that another RM50mil under Budget 2016 would be made available to SMEs soon.

He added that the loan could be applied for working capital, business expansion as well as the purchase of assets like machines and equipment.

Teh, who is SME Association of Malaysia immediate past president, also hoped that Kojadi would be upgraded into a full-fledged bank to provide an alternative for the SME community, in addition to SMEBank.
