KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah SME Mobile Truck Association (SSMTA) plans to help graduates and youths to venture into mobile truck business, instead of waiting for a job, with the present high unemployment situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

SME Sabah President Foo Ngee Kee, who is also the founding President of SSMTA, said this would be among the activities that the association planned to do as part of its effort to help the Government in addressing the unemployment issue.

He said the association was registered with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on Oct 25 last year and will be holding its inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) next week, adding the holding of the AGM was delayed due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) restrictions.

“The SSMTA’s elected council will pay a courtesy call on Mayor Datuk Nordin Siman to brief him on its objectives and activities planned. These include to help graduates and youths to be a mobile truck owner, instead of waiting for a job, under the present high unemployment situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said when briefing Nordin on the association at City Hall (DBKK), here, Thursday.

DBKK’s Research and Innovation Department Director Benedict Oliver Lidadun, SME Sabah Vice President cum SSMTA Deputy President Tan Kai Teck, Secretary-General Lawrence Wong, Head of SME Sabah Women Entrepreneur, Callee Tan, and Head of Public Relations, Ngan Yoke Loo, among others, were also present.

During the meeting, Foo also handed over 1,500 masks, 200 face shields, 28 bottles of hand sanitiser and 100 boxes of packed food items to Nordin for distribution to the DBKK frontliners.

The donations were collected from SME Sabah advisors, councillors and members for the “We Care – Covid-19”. Donations of prevention of coronavirus infection and packed food items had also been made earlier to Tanjung Aru residents, Telipok Ria and Tuaran residents, the Tuaran District Office and the Prisons Fellowship Malaysia.
